Grindrod Supports Comrades 2017
As is tradition, Grindrod staff were out in full force to support the runners in the 92nd Comrades Marathon on 4 June 2017. It meant a 2:30am start for the roughly 200 Grindrod volunteers, but the spirit and camaraderie made it all worthwhile.
All volunteers were provided with headphones and were entertained with music and dance whilst setting up the station near Kloof. Su Moller’s team served breakfast ahead of the first runners coming through, and the headphones were soon replaced with great vibes from our DJ.
“It was great out there and the tables were as vibrant as always. Managed to see a couple of colleagues but our table was really busy. The support is always welcome and thanks for the banner dedicated to the Grindrod runners,” said Xolani Mbambo.
“Thanks so much for all the support. The station was awesome!” said Andy Challis.
“Grindrod team really put us high on Comrades list of participating companies. I want to place on record my sincere thanks to all the volunteers that were present at the watering tables. I take my hat off to each and every one of you who took the time to be there for us as runners. The tables where excellently manned and the area was clean enough for the Comrades committee to award Grindrod the best support table of the race. The staff encouragement, comradeship, bubbly, loving and cheering spirit was beyond my comprehension,” said Stanton Pillay.
Well, we will have to wait and see which company is honoured with the award for best Support Station for 2017. Grindrod was placed second in 2016.
